Collision of Lies Review

Image
This was my first book by Tom Threadgill, and I am almost speechless! This is not my typical genre to read, but I was hooked from the first chapter (and by the way, the chapters are very short which I thought was amazing because it is easier to read short, but meaningful bits when I can fit it in!). Threadgill builds his characters, their worlds, and their relationships seamlessly. Everything about the book flows smoothly. It is now almost 1am and I just finished the book. My normal bedtime is 10pmish; but I had to know what happened next! Another side note. This is the first book I read by this author, so imagine my thrill when I looked up his books and realized he has a three book series that stars a very out of the scenes, minor character in Collision of Lies! I love when series build off of one another. If you are even slightly interested in shows like NCIS, CSI, etc, this would be a great book for you! I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own, and I w...

Childhood Review and Giveaway!

Image
In Childhood, we are able to see into the “beginning of the story” so to speak, and see where the main  characters in Greg Schaffer’s upcoming full length novel Fatherhood are coming from. I like the fact that we see into the backgrounds - a lot of times when we don’t know the background of someone, we are quick to judge rather than feel compassion. I’m looking forward to reading Farherhood when it comes out! About the Book Book:   Childhood Author:  Greg Schaffer Genre:   Contemporary Release Date:  February 10, 2020 Katie lived a lonely childhood, her after school time filled with responsibilities to her father and special needs brother. Her chores prevented her from experiencing the carefree life her peers, including Joey, her neighbor and secret crush, lived. She began running to impress Joey, then discovered track as a possible way out of the small town of Nortonville, Tennessee. But as the promise of a college scholarship drew he...

Managing Worry and Anxiety Review

Image
In Managing Worry and Anxiety, Jean Holthaus helps walk us through ways that are Christ - focused and can help us overcome some of life’s hardest hurdles. Worry and anxiety are hard for Christians to deal with as we are “supposed to be happy and upbeat”. It’s a silent battle that many of us face, and Holthaus pulls from Scripture and gives us practical strategies to deal with the challenges. The book is well written and easy to read. I received a book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

In Want + Plenty Review

Image
In the book In Want + Plenty, Meredith McDaniel takes us on a journey through the Old Testament, specifically Exodus, and parallels it with our lives in current situations. McDaniel takes us on a journey, helps us apply true lessons to our own hearts and lives, and helps us draw closer to a Jesus as we work through this book. Even though it is more superficial, I love the feel of the cover and the layout of the book. The colors and the format blend well together and doesn’t leave me feeling suffocated. The author lays out her heart on the pages in a way that is sure to help someone if they allow it. I was given this book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

Two Steps Forward Review

Image
Suzanne Woods Fisher has done a fantastic job of bringing us into the Amish Word of Stoney Ridge. She continues to build the community and its residents up in a world that feels as if it is our own. I love reading this series because it feels as if we come back to have coffee or tea with old friends and chat about what has been happening in their lives. Fisher touches on the subject of how some people view “illegitimate” children and the horrible effect it can have on everyone around in a classy fashion. Definitely recommend this book! I received this book from Revell Reads and was not required to give a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Going in to this book, I was not sure exactly what to expect, but now that I have read it, I am thrilled!
