The Call of the Wild + Free Review


I am always looking for books to help inspire me and be a help in our homeschool, so when I heard so many wonderful things about The Call of the Wild + Free, I decided to give it a try. I listened to the audiobook on a 1,000 mile drive, and became very impressed with Ainsley Arment’s philosophies concerning homeschool. We need to get back to the basics and listen to the call of the wild and free! Our children are not meant to sit in their boxes and be tested all day. They’ll never be able to reach their full potential that way. While I listened to the audiobook, I believe this is a book I will be getting the in print version of so I can mark it up and use it as an easier reference for encouragement.

  When thinking of a Cinderella retelling, my mind certainly never went to the world that Chautona Havig has created. Havig has taken something “ordinary” and “mundane” and used her creative genius to form a world brimming with new possibilities. At the start of the book, Havig begins setting the stage with the main characters and we learn who is who. As the plot moves along, Havig does an excellent job of building the world and storyline. The plot moves along at a great pace and the character building is on par. But, this is what I have come to expect from a Havig book! Havig crafts great stories period.  While this is not a storyline I would have come up with, at the end, Havig will leave you believing that it is a wonderful real world. Forget and Now Review and Giveaway

This is the first story I have read by Alana Terry and I was blown away! Alana Terry was able to captivate my attention from the beginning to the end. Not only was I captivated, I also did not guess what had happened until the last bit. It was a well drawn out and perfectly time suspense! The characters are well developed and the story line flows wonderfully. Bridge of Gold Review

  This is another fantastic book by Kimberley Woodhouse! (Honestly, it’s only my second one by her - The Mayflower Bride was my first - but, it’s great nonetheless!!). I loved the way the storylines flowed - each was distinct yet interconnected. I love when historical fiction gets me interested in a period of history, and Mrs Woodhouse has done that with the legend, lore, and history of The Golden Gate Bridge. Mrs Woodhouse did a thorough job of researching the area during the different time periods. The dual timelines are seamless and flow well. The character development is flawless, and the plot line keeps a great, captivating pace. I do have one complaint - I did not get much sleep while reading this book!!! :) it kept me up at night with the “just one more chapter” syndrome. I highly recommend this book, and I am off to find other books by Kimberley Woodhouse!
