When Life Doesn’t Match Your Dreams Book Review

Since I have read every other book of Jill Eileen Smith’s (including her newest The Heart of a King that I was on the launch team for!), I was excited to see that she had written a nonfiction book. When Life Doesn’t Match Your Dreams was wonderful. Jill took 12 women from Genesis and wrote a fiction section, then a nonfiction, then back to a fiction, then nonfiction, and finally reflection questions. She does this for each woman. When we hear stories of these women in the book, a lot of times we reflect on them as just that - stories. It is hard to wrap our minds around how it can relate to us in our current culture. Jill brings this and more as she helps guide us in applying lessons learned from these women.

  When thinking of a Cinderella retelling, my mind certainly never went to the world that Chautona Havig has created. Havig has taken something “ordinary” and “mundane” and used her creative genius to form a world brimming with new possibilities. At the start of the book, Havig begins setting the stage with the main characters and we learn who is who. As the plot moves along, Havig does an excellent job of building the world and storyline. The plot moves along at a great pace and the character building is on par. But, this is what I have come to expect from a Havig book! Havig crafts great stories period.  While this is not a storyline I would have come up with, at the end, Havig will leave you believing that it is a wonderful real world. Forget and Now Review and Giveaway

This is the first story I have read by Alana Terry and I was blown away! Alana Terry was able to captivate my attention from the beginning to the end. Not only was I captivated, I also did not guess what had happened until the last bit. It was a well drawn out and perfectly time suspense! Childhood Review and Giveaway!

In Childhood, we are able to see into the “beginning of the story” so to speak, and see where the main  characters in Greg Schaffer’s upcoming full length novel Fatherhood are coming from. I like the fact that we see into the backgrounds - a lot of times when we don’t know the background of someone, we are quick to judge rather than feel compassion.
